FONDATEURS

STÉPHANE BARRIQUAND
Architect-urban planner, State Architect, Teacher

A graduate of the Grenoble School of Architecture (1995), he attended the Craterre laboratory's Constructive Cultures course. Initially interested in artisanal practices in architectural design (diploma), he then turned his attention to the role and meaning of public space. In charge of the Euroméditerranée urban project at the Agence d'urbanisme de l'Agglomération Marseillaise (1995-1998), he completed his training in urban anthropology with Michel Agier at the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales.
In 1998, he founded a studio based in Marseille and Annecy with landscape architect Sandy Frydlender.

At the same time, he began working as a consultant, first with the Bouches-du-Rhône CAUE in 2006, then as a State Architect in 2012. He was elected president of their association in 2020, their 70th anniversary.
He began teaching urban design at the Institut Universitaire d'Aménagement Régional d'Aix-en-Provence with Daniel Pinson in 2008.
In 2020, he was appointed lecturer in architectural and urban design at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Lyon. He is responsible for teaching urban design at undergraduate level and for one semester of the Architecture, Resources and Resilience (A2Res) master's program.

His research focuses on the conditions of habitability in the face of climate change, as well as on the processes involved in developing and adapting urban space.

SANDY FRYDLENDER
Landscape architect

A graduate of the Marseille School of Architecture (1997), she attended the Montagne workshop at the Grenoble School of Architecture under the guidance of landscape architect Anne-Fortier Kriegel. Quickly specializing in this discipline, she began teaching at the Grenoble School of Architecture in the field of representational arts, before obtaining her diploma for the redevelopment of the Luminy university estate in Marseille.
In 1998, she founded a studio based in Marseille and Annecy with Stéphane Barriquand, an architect and urban planner.

She worked on the public spaces of the Marseille metropolis, with the first master plan for public spaces for Euroméditerranée, and then on the redevelopment of the Opera district for the city. These projects were followed by a series of urban renewal projects in Marseille.
At the same time, she developed specific projects in rural areas, first in Burgundy for the “coeur de ville” project (Toulon-sur-Arroux), then for the Cathar castles in the Corbières (Duilhac-sous-Peyrepertuse) and the garden village of Mellé in Brittany. Confronted with questions of resources, local know-how and appropriation, she developed participatory approaches and transitional urban planning in contexts of severe depopulation, earning the studio the Prix des Jeunes Urbanistes in 2005.
She continues her dual expertise as a project manager and consultant on public space from the point of view of use and participation.
