Create a new major crossing over the Loire between the île de Nantes and the quai de la Fosse on the basis of an existing bridge. Preliminary studies, feasibility and programming, project monitoring in design-implementation.
How can we take advantage of the passage of a new tramway line to rethink the overall concept of structures on the Loire? It is a challenge that involves linking the management of new inflows – particularly bicycles – with the preservation of biodiversity and the needs arising from citizen consultation on the Loire. Between heritage issues and maritime flows, the project consisted of convincing the client to move towards the major role that it lacks in Nantes: an event-based bridge.
After several feasibility studies integrating all constraints and opinions, the unitary solution of a real public space on the Loire of 60m wide by 150m long has been imposed. It is set to become the new meeting place for the people of Nantes and as striking as the old transporter bridge. The workshop worked to transform the high technology of a bridge into a work that is both expressive and livable for everyone.
